Rankin Photography Research:
The photgrapher I researched was Rankin, He took up the study of photography at barnfield college luton and then london college of printing, he met a man called Jefferson Hack and when they both graduated they started a magazine together called Dazed and Confused. The magazine focused on close up photography of makeup and hair like the pictures above, the thing that I like about Rankins photos is that he uses plain backgrounds and he uses bright and dull makeup so it is a mixture of them both, he also uses some surrealism in his photos also portraiture. Rankin uses close up photography to show all the different styles of make-up he has used and a range of different colours.
Annotation...
I like this photograph because it is colourful and it is also shiny, I think Rankin has done a close up photography to show all the features of the face and the gems, make-up and hair by using the lighting effects whilst taking the picture, Rankin has also used a slow shutter speed to capture the movement of the light.. My first reaction to the photography was wow because the first thing you notice is the shininess coming from the gems on her head. Rankin has also used portraiture in this image to capture the features of the face (soft light).
Body painting...
These types of photographs are done by a range of different artists, I like them becasuse they are different and they stand out, I think what the photographers are trying to show is that humans can act and look like animals. I like the body positions and levels because you can get an image of what they are trying to do.
